Marlboro County School District will have a Virtual Academy this school year for grades 4 through 12. At this time, we will begin to look at serving our students that already expressed interest in the virtual option during the spring survey period last school year. For grades four through eight, students will have access to a virtual platform for all subject areas. Moreover, these elementary and middle school students will have access to a "live learning block" each day for focused instruction and intervention. This learning block will last 90 minutes each day to satisfy the state requirement of 25% synchronous lessons.
After we have worked with the students that have already formally expressed interest in the Virtual Academy, we will have an application process for any potential virtual students. There is a 5% cap on enrollment per the state proviso on the virtual option for South Carolina public school districts.
For new applicants, we will consider the following for admittance to the MCSD Virtual Academy.
These factors will be considered:
student performance
student attendance
district's ability to provide a complete schedule (high school students)
student's desire to participate in extra-curricular activities, CTE courses, and JROTC
